Exciting Enhanced Promotion Scheme

Have you got what it takes to do the 'double jump' from Level 7 to Level 5 in just ONE season?

The Referees' Committee is looking to encourage those who can meet the criteria below to apply to be considered for the Enhanced Promotion Scheme for the year ending 28/02/2006. Those with most to gain will be likely to be in their late twenties or early thirties as success would give you the opportunity to progress to Contributory League football or higher. Considerable commitment is required.

The criteria are:-

1) From 01/03/2005 to 30/09/2005 - Part 1 - Promotion from 7 to 6

...a) referee at least 20 11-a-side games
...b) be assessed at least 3 times
...c) attend an In-Service Training Workshop for Level 7
...d) pass an examination on the Laws of the Game

2) From 01/10/2005 to 28/02/2006 - Part 2 - Promotion from Level 6 to 5

...a) referee at least another 20 11-a-side games
...b) be assessed at least another 3 times
...c) attend an In-Service Training Workshop for Level 6 referees on promotion
...d) pass another examination on the Laws of the Game

3) Consideration for further Promotion from Level from 5 to Level 4

If under the age of 43, officiate as a nuetral Assistant Referee on at least 5 Supply League matches in the promotion period between 01/10/2005 and 28/02/2006. Candidates can only be considered for nomination to Level 4 once they have passed a Fitness Test based upon Contributory League requirements.

We have had good success with this scheme in the current season - let's keep it up!

Please apply in writing to Vic Skilton c/o County Office or via e-mail to vic.skilton@surreyfa.com. You will need to pass a formal interview to be accepted onto the scheme and applications must arrive by the end of March 2005.

Notes from the Head of Refereeing - David Crick

a) The right level of fitness for games

I am concerned that Match Officials are officiating when not fully fit thus breaching their obligation to the game and players. Whilst none of us like to let the two teams down, at least by declaring early that you have some problems they may be able to find and alternative match official. Equally you may not be doing yourself any favours physically and probably not the clubs and players either. Please bear this in mind.

b) The use of "blue cards"

It seems that Blue Cards are not always being issued correctly. They can only be used in Small-sided football and NOT in mini football or in any 11-a-side match.

Referee Joke #4

A Referee went to heaven. On arriving at the Pearly Gates, St Peter asked him if he had done anything wrong in his life. He replied that he was Refereeing a game between Arsenal and Spurs at Highbury. With just a few minutes to go, and with Arsenal 1-0 up, he gave a penalty to Spurs in front of the North End. 'But', he said, 'it wasn't really a penalty'. St Peter said to him, 'when was this?'.

The Referee looked down at his watch and said 'about 35 seconds ago'.

Referee Joke #3

Have you heard about the new law they've just passed. Referees have to be buried 10 feet down!
Why's that?

Because deep down they are nice people!

Referee Joke #2

Two Referees were sitting on bar stools having a drink or two after the game.
The older Referee starts to insult the younger one. He screams "I slept with your mother!"

The bar room goes quiet and everyone looks towards the two Referees, ….waiting with baited breath to see how the young Assistant will react.

The older Referee screams again. "I SLEPT WITH YOUR MOTHER!"

The younger Referee says: "Go home Dad, you’re drunk".
